Today is my grandfather’s birthday. He would be 99. This is a post I wrote about him shortly after he passed…a mini biography. Enjoy!

The New Authors Fellowship

My Grandfather died on September 14, 2010.  He was 97 years old.  He lived through both world wars, Korea, Vietnam, the Gulf War, the War on Terror, and every conflict in between.  He saw the invention of the TV and the moon landing.  He watched the Model T evolve into a modern sedan.  He was an avid Braves fan and could remember celebrating the accomplishments of Shoeless Joe Jackson.  And my Grandfather was a fierce man of God.

I can’t tell you all of his story… 97 years of life is a lot of life.  But I want to tell you some.  Perhaps one day I’ll pen a full biography.

Charlie Samuel Smith, Papaw to me, was born in 1913 to farmer parents in south Mississippi.  He was the oldest of a very large family, and they lived in a small farm house.  I don’t know much about his childhood…
